Pecha Kucha Night Dundee Vol 14

pecha-kucha-night-dundee

#PKN_DND had just happened! It was my second time attending Pecha Kucha and it was even better than I expected! I really enjoyed listening and watching the speakers share their perspectives and adventures and one day, I’ll be able to share the stage with those great people too. 🙂

pecha-kucha-night-dundeeTo those of you who do not know, Pecha Kucha ( a.k.a. Pecha Kucha 20×20) means ‘chit chat’ in Japanese. It was devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Klein Dytham architecture, and was first held in Tokyo back in 2003. It was thought to be a one off event but it has grown into a celebration of creativity around the globe! It is now run in over 860 cities with at least 100 events held each month (Source: http://www.klein-dytham.com/).

12748034_1032447506822441_2798942831363015742_oBasically, each speaker is allowed to present 20 images spending only 20 seconds talking about each one. The format is inspired by architects because ‘they simply talk too much’.

All 13 speakers that presented at the Pecha Kucha made an impact on the night. The topics were very diverse and even if there were common themes, the perspective and outlook of the speakers could not be more different. pecha-kucha-night-dundeeBoth Mary Jane Baxter and Lorraine Wilson talked about their adventure in Europe. But Mary Jane focused on the human interaction while the architectural similarities between Dundee and European cities is the core of Lorraine’s presentation.

Topics ranged from feminism to psychological discovery about creativity and even necks! Yes. You read it right. NECKS! Here is a link to the full coverage of the night if you want to see what I am talking about: Pecha Kucha Night Dundee Vol 14

Looking forward to the next one in May already! Visit pechakucha.org to see if there are any events near you! 🙂
