Mini Adventure in Stockholm, Sweden

Any British resident would instantly think of going where the sun shines on a cold winter season. I did too. I was having some bad holiday blues back in November since I had not had a chance to relax and prep myself before work had gotten busy… and then along came a business trip to Stockholm. I thought, I would definitely love to see the city… But in December? Will I survive the cold though?

I did some planning before the trip but what the heck. I knew I would get distracted and get lost anyway. I was over for 4 days and was really only able to go out during the night and a couple of hours when I had a half day. The problem was the weather was a little too gloomy for my liking, it was windy and it did get dark pretty early. Funny enough, it felt like Scotland was a little bit cooler that time. Here’s what went down anyway…

I stayed right in the middle of Stockholm so everything was within reach-shops, restaurants, hairdressers, Kulturhuset, Metro station… you name it! 😉
Shopping is great for locals and both the tourists. There is a lot of gift and souvenir shops as well as Swedish retail brands within the centre. More than anything, I am actually quite surprised about how many H&M shops are within a short distance from each other. What boggled me was the lack of convenience store in the centre and within the vicinity. I came across one accidentally and that was it. Unless, of course, I was too distracted by the view to even notice.

Nordiska Museet (Nordic Museum) is a must-go! Sadly, I was not able to view the exhibit at the time. And it was such a shame because it was about the evolution of Fashion in Sweden! It would have been really fascinating.

Food was expensive but if you are patient enough to go around, you’d find some decent restaurants with very reasonable prices. I am not really fussy with what to eat. My only requirement (always) is MEAT. I am easy to please.

If you are not a free-wandering soul like me, there is a lot of paid tours you can buy online. However, I would recommend taking a free walking tour with ‘Free Tours Stockholm’ since I have read a lot of good reviews about it. I actually came across one when I was going around myself.

I do hope to come back again and this time, I’ll go somewhere totally different so I can share more of the experience with you guys. 🙂
