COSMO Restaurant Edinburgh – Pan Asian and World Dining Buffet

What is a food lover’s greatest weakness? BUFFET. It is not a secret why Cosmo in Edinburgh is one of my favourite buffet restaurants in Scotland. They offer a selection of Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Mexican, Italian, Grilled and British dishes; as well as luscious desserts! So, what is the rave about?

Location.
Cosmo is situated in the Omni Centre at Central Edinburgh. They have a multi-storey car park (with quite expensive rates) that is easy to access. Along with other restaurants, it is also close to John Lewis and multiple shopping outlets.

Ambience.

Firstly, the set up is amazing and easy to navigate. The seating and food area are clearly divided. The ceiling (though I do not have photos) closely resembles waves in the ocean, giving the interior a cool relaxing vibe. It is not too bright inside, lighting has a warm yellow tone and the seats are comfortable enough for long seating.

Food.

Cosmo is above your average buffet. The dishes have to tasty but at the same time, need to cater to everyone’s taste. For example, I would not say their Green Thai curry is spectacular as I had a better version somewhere else. But for a commercialised version, it is pretty damn tasty.

The grill is phenomenal, so as the Teppanyaki bar. I did get a couple of squid from there. Salmon, scallops and beef are also some of the produce you can ask to be cooked in front of you.

The restaurant’s Mexican section occupied a little space with extremely limited choices. I remember getting minced beef taco from there. The Chinese and the Indian food aisles occupied the largest space.

I have to say, the dessert bar is my ultimate favourite. They have chocolate fondue, macarons, selection of cakes, ice cream and even creme brûlée. If I could only eat all day… I did manage to sneak a couple of macarons (peanut butter, pistachio, chocolate, lemon and strawberry flavoured ones!). Cosmo, please do not ban me from your restaurants! I did hold back.

Price.
Good value for money for the selection you get. I got my money back easily from the amount I eat. YOU WILL BE SURPRISED.

If you are a family with small kids, they can charge you £5.50-£7 (depending on the day and time) regardless of how much they eat. Check the prices here.

Service.
Their service team is comprised of different ethnic backgrounds. I love it! It gives the place a more authentic feel. They are always on top of their work and always willing to accommodate my needs when I ask. The only criticism would be that I tend to remind them or wait for a while when I ask for something. I cannot blame them because when it gets busy, they really have to multi-task.

I Recommend.
I would definitely recommend the restaurant to people who want to excite their palette or very indecisive of what they want, BUT not to people with small appetite. If you are in Edinburgh and casually looking for a place to eat, this may not be the restaurant for you. You had to be there early if you did not book a table. The waiting time can increase to 40 minutes if you arrive at a busy time. But if you are willing to wait or come back, definitely worth it!
